Zero Days Makes the Academy Awards Shortlist.

December 5th, 2016 - Chelsea director Alex Gibney's latest documentary, Zero Days, has officially been shortlisted in the 2017 Academy Award race for Best Documentary Feature. The acclaimed film, produced by Jigsaw Productions and Participant Media, made its' world premiere in competition at the 2016 Berlin International Film Festival, before receiving a theatrical release this past summer through Magnolia Pictures.

The timely, captivating feature examines the Stuxnet virus and development of malware known as "Olympic Games", presenting a fascinating and alarming look at cyber security, international relations, and what the future may hold. RogertEbert.com called the doc "easily the most important film anyone has released this year", as Gibney pushes a vital yet underdiscussed subject into public view. Zero Days has garnered a number of other award nominations this year, including the Critics' Choice Awards, Cinema Eyes Honors, The Satellite Awards, and The Houston Film Critics Society Awards.

The prolific filmmaker is no stranger to controversy. His film Taxi to the Dark Side, examining the United States' policies on torture and interrogation, was awarded the 2008 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature; The film was lauded for bringing forward a dark, often overlooked topic into the mainstream eye, with The New York Times noting that "if recent American history is ever going to be discussed with the necessary clarity and ethical rigor, this film will be essential". Gibney's celebrated and provocative filmography also includes the challenging documentaries Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief and Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God, both of which received 3 Emmy Awards; We Steal Secerets: The Story of Wikileaks; The Armstrong Lie; Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine; Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room; and Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Elliot Spitzer.

Gibney's 2016 also includes his role as an Executive Producer for three television series; Cooked for Netflix, The Killing Season for A&E, and The New Yorker Presents for Amazon. His recent commercial work includes the Mustang Moments campaign for Ford, as well as spots for GE and Gatorade.
